Greenworks 80V Snow Blower
The Greenworks 80V Snow Blower is an older model, first released back in the mid 2010s. It features a 20-inch clearing width and 80V brushless motor. The 20-inch width means fewer passes across a larger area than an 18-inch machine. At 33 pounds, its weight still compares well with newer cordless single-stage snow blowers.
The 2.0Ah battery limits how much of that capability you can use in one session. Its rather small capacity means the battery will need a recharge sooner than models with larger battery reserves. The lightest snow blower in this lineup is also the only one that does not rely on batteries. At 26.5 pounds, the WSnow22 is easier to manoeuvre than the other four models. Its 22-inch clearing width is also the widest of the five, so each pass covers more ground.
Its 1,800W electric motor can keep running without a battery recharge. That helps during longer clearing sessions where battery capacity would otherwise slow things down. The downside is the power cord. You need an outdoor outlet and suitable extension cord to reach the area. How to Choose a Single-Stage Electric Snow Blower
Battery or Corded Power
The first thing to consider is whether you need cordless convenience or unlimited runtime when using a snow blower.
Battery models free you from a power cord. You can move around and clear snow without managing a cable. Corded models keep running without stopping to recharge.
Four models in this lineup use batteries. The Westinghouse WSnow22 is the only corded option. Its runtime is not limited by battery capacity. The working range is instead limited by the outdoor outlet and extension cord.
Clearing Width
Choose the clearing width based on how much ground you need to cover. An 18-inch machine requires more passes across wide areas than a 22-inch model.
The narrower Snow Joe IONMAX 48V with its 18-inch width takes up less space and is easier to work into tighter areas. The wider models cover more ground with each pass. That difference becomes more noticeable as the clearing area gets larger.
Snow Conditions
Single-stage electric snow blowers are most comfortable with fresh snowfall. Deep, wet, or compacted snow puts more demand on the motor and auger.
Throwing distance can fall as snow becomes heavier. Clearing can also slow down in deeper accumulation. Plow piles at the end of a driveway can be particularly demanding.
If you regularly get deep or wet snow, pay closer attention to the machine’s clearing depth and motor output.
Battery Capacity and Runtime
Battery capacity tells you how much energy is available. It does not tell you exactly how long the snow blower will run.
