Stainless Steel Design
The exterior of the Big Boss Juicer is made of stainless steel, which gives it a sleek, attractive appearance and ensures it blends in nicely with most other modern kitchen appliances.
However, the housing and most other parts are made of plastic. This is a little concerning regarding its durability long term, but given the fact this juicer cost 3-4 times less than juicers which have full stainless steel construction, you are getting what you pay for.
Unlike most centrifugal juicers at this price point which tend to only feature a single speed setting, the Big Boss Juicer features 2 speed settings (low/high) so you can use the lower speed to get optimum extraction from soft fruits and vegetables so juice isn’t gone to waste and nutrients aren’t lost.
700 Watt motor (18,000 RPM)
The 700-watt motor operates at speeds up to 18,000 RPM. Although the motor isn’t heavy-duty, it has enough power to juice hard vegetables such as beets and carrots at a reasonable extraction rate.
Large mouth opening
The large mouth opening is 3-inches wide, which allows you to fit whole produce in the feeding tube without cutting them up beforehand, reducing the preparation time required. Larger fruits and vegetables will not fit down the feeding tube without being sliced, so some preparation will be required for them.
Cleaning the Big Boss Juicer is rather easy apart from when getting to the cutter/filter. This part is a bit awkward to clean due to the ingraining of the pulp on the edges. The included cleaning isn’t very good, so we advise you to invest in a more solid brush with harder bristles which will do a better job at tackling that pulp.
All the parts are dishwasher safe, but most consumers have found that cleaning the parts using hot soapy water immediately after juicing is very effective.
Pros and Cons
The Big Boss Juicer ticks a lot of the right boxes. It’s stylish, easy to assemble, powerful and produces a good amount of juice, leaving a dry pulp.
The multi-speed option is very handy when it comes to juicing soft produce.
The included recipe book has some great tips on food safety to educate you on the dos and don’ts of juicing.
It is easy to clean on the whole, due to being easy to disassemble and comprising of dishwasher safe parts.
The included cleaning brush is rather flimsy, so we advise either using a different brush or purchase a good quality brush such as the Oxo Steel Dish Brush.
The pulp container isn’t transparent so if you like to juice a lot of produce in one go, you need to check it occasionally to ensure it doesn’t overfill. Although the container is generously sized so this shouldn’t be much of a problem.
Some consumers have encountered a problem with the motor burning out after owning the juicer for only a short period, so there are some concerns about durability. However, this doesn’t seem to be a common trend so we aren’t too overly concerned about this.
It’s rather loud in operation especially when juicing hard produce, but given the high speed it zips through produce this shouldn’t be much of an issue.
The Big Boss Juicer has impressed us as it represents incredibly good value for money. The fact you can make other things beside juice such as baby food, soup and sauces, is an added bonus and adds to this machines versatility.
However, the fact it is built mostly of parts made of plastic means it lacks the durability of higher-end centrifugal juicers such as the Juice Fountain Elite.
We recommend the Big Boss Juicer to those who are either on a budget or want to buy their first juicer to see if juicing is something they want to pursue before investing in a more expensive and durable juicer.
