Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus 850-Watt Juicing Machine Review
The Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus is very similar to its predecessor, the Breville JE95XL and features some improvements to enhance its reliability. Despite the Juice Fountain Plus being the second cheapest model out of the seven juicers in Breville’s juicer line-up, it still delivers the power and performance to make delicious juice at a rapid speed.
One critical problem which some consumers experienced with the previous Juice Fountain Plus model was the motor burning out. To address this problem for the Breville JE98XL, Breville implemented an LED for overload protection to give you ample warning if the motor is under strain.
For the price range which it’s in, this juicer is regarded by many people as the best juicing machine available. Juicer Reviews sets out to discover whether it really is the best in its class.

The Juice Fountain Plus has all the hallmarks of a juicing machine built to look good and last long. The heavy-grade polymer body is both durable and finished in a sleek silver satin color. The use of plastic for the housing opposed to the die-cast metal or stainless-steel construction found in other Breville juicer models makes this model less durable, but it’s still more than adequate to last the lifetime of the juicer under regular usage.
Rubber feet below the appliance provide added sturdiness and ensure that the juicer doesn’t shake or wobble during operation.
The Juice Fountain Plus has two speed settings for simple operation, allowing you to attain a good yield from whatever type of produce you are juicing. The low speed setting runs at 6,500 RPM which is ideal for juicing soft fruits and leafy produce. The high speed setting runs at 12,000 RPM which is ideal for juicing dense fruits and vegetables such as carrots.
While this juicer lacks the variable 5-speed control of the Breville Ikon, the two speed settings simplify things and mean you don’t need to learn exactly which speed setting each produce should be juiced at to achieve the balance between speed and a high extraction rate.
Large 3-inch Feeding Chute
Most of us have experienced in the past, the time and effort involved slicing produce before putting them into a food processor. The Juice Fountain Plus saves you this problem by featuring a large 3-inch feeding chute which can fit in many whole produce without requiring any prep work.
Safety locking arm
The safety locking arm gives you added peace of mind that the juicer can only be operated once the locking arm is securely in place. This safety feature is especially useful if you have children.
Pros and Cons
The Breville JE98XL is very user-friendly, compact and robustly designed. The silver satin finish allows it to blend in nicely with even the most contemporary of kitchens.
The 850-watt motor gives you ample power to juice fruits and vegetables at a rapid speed. The dual-speed settings are very useful for getting maximum yield from each produce you juice.
Easy to clean, providing you clean all 5 parts straight after juicing. If you don’t fancy hand washing the parts, you can put them in the dishwasher to make the cleaning task even easier.
The LED for overload protection is very useful for preventing the occurrence of motor burnout as it gives you indication if too much strain is being put on the motor.
The provided 1 litre juice jug has a froth separator which is great for removing the froth from your juice.
The noise level it makes during operation is relatively quiet for a centrifugal juicer.
Low price. The value this machine offers is unprecedented.
For leafy greens, the juicer is too fast to get a good amount of juice from them. If you juice a lot of leafy greens we advice you buy a masticating juicer instead.
Quite a lot of foam is produced due to the high speed it juices at. However, the froth separator on the juice jug does a good job of removing most of this foam.
The 1-year warranty is a little short for our liking, but based on our quality trend analysis this juicer has a good lifespan so we wouldn’t recommend purchasing an extended warranty.
If you’re not a heavy juicer who needs a commercial grade machine, you’ll be pleased as punch with the Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus 850-Watt Juicing Machine. The power this machine puts out is quite staggering and can handle the hardest of produce to give you a delicious tasty juice drink in minutes.
If you can stretch your budget a little further, Breville’s next model up – the Breville BJE510XL Juice Fountain Multi-Speed, has a few key improvements. The base and feed chute are made of stainless steel for extra durability. It also features a 900-watt motor opposed to the 850-watt motor in the Juice Fountain Plus. There are also 5-speed settings to give you optimum control over the speed which your produce is juiced at.
Both the Breville JE98XL and Breville BJE510XL are fantastic mid-range juicers which are both functional and attractive. If you can afford it we recommend you go for the Breville BJE510XL due to the extra durability the stainless steel construction provides.
